Go Outside!
I can't even begin to count how many times I said that to my kids as they were growing up...and not just to get a moment of peace. I'm one of those moms who can't stand the thought of kids being cooped up indoors too much.
Being outside is good on so many levels. It's great for mental health. And not just for kids. It promotes activity, curiosity, creativity, exploration, and a chance to step away from the hold our various electronic devices can have on us, just to name a few of the benefits.
In addition, it's good for our physical health, too. You've likely heard that sunlight is a good source of vitamin D, but do you know how many things vitamin D affects? Lots - seratonin levels, bone health, and it can have a positive impact on several common health issues and diseases.(Check out the article links below.)
In the past several years, we've been bombarded with info that breeds fear of sunlight and all the horrible things it can do to us. Of course, we need to use good sense, but as the ncbi article linked below states, "...excessive UVR exposure accounts for only 0.1% of the total global burden of disease in disability-adjusted life years." Fear not, my friends! Sun can do a body (and spirit) good!
If this picture alone isn't enough to make you want to head outdoors, Here are a few articles to convince you.
Now, go outside!
