Don't Fear the Green

Updated: Nov 19, 2020

This vibrant bowl is billed as a detox smoothie. I've heard things on both sides of the detox food issue. Some swear by detoxes. Some say our body is perfectly equipped to eliminate what it needs to without doing the detox thing.

Honestly, I haven't come to a solid conclusion as to what I think about it, so in the meantime, I use two qualifying criteria for judging any "detox" foods or practices.

1) Could it be harmful in any way?

2) If it's a food, does it taste good? 'Cause, honey, if it doesn't taste good, I'm not eating it.

This recipe passed my test, and (added bonus) it's appealing to the eye, so I gave it a go. Isn't it pretty?

REVIEW -

First of all, would I make this again? Yes.

Second, 2 cups of kale? Nope. Nope. And nope. I've tried kale many different ways and I'm just not a fan. I've tried. On the other hand, fresh spinach? Yes, please! So, I substituted spinach for the kale. I skipped the kiwi since I'm allergic to it and I left out the mint because I wasn't feeling it.

Overall, I liked this one better than most other green smoothies I've tried. I'll make it again, but probably not super often.

If you're a fan of detox foods, definitely try this. If you're not sure about them, this is delicious enough to stand on it's own regardless of it's detox possibilities.
