Once Upon a Time...: Are Your Inner Stories Helping or Holding You Back?



We're diving deep into the captivating world of self-narratives. You know those stories we tell ourselves, the ones that play like background music to our lives? Well, they're powerful, and they shape our reality more than we might think.


1) Are the stories we tell ourselves true?

First things first, let's talk about truth. Are the stories we tell ourselves always accurate? Well, not necessarily. Our inner narratives often evolve from past experiences, beliefs, and perceptions. Sometimes, they're spot on, and other times they're, well, a bit exaggerated. Oftentimes, the actual truth of a situation is less potent than our perception since our view shapes our response.


2) How have they served us? What value have they been to us?

Our inner stories have a purpose. They've served us by helping us make sense of the world, navigate challenges, and protect ourselves. They've been our companions, our motivators, and sometimes our comfort. It's important to recognize the impact these stories have in our day-to-day lives.


3) Are they still serving us well, or are they hindering us?

Now, here's the kicker: Are these stories still doing us any favors, or are they holding us back? Sometimes, our trusty narratives turn into stubborn roadblocks, keeping us stuck in patterns that no longer serve our growth and happiness. 4) Recognize, Evaluate, and Reprogram

The good news is that we're not stuck with these stories. The first step to disempower them is to recognize them. What's that persistent inner voice saying? What tales are on repeat in your mind?


Next, let's evaluate their current value. Are they helping you reach your goals, or are they sabotaging your efforts? It's like a mental spring-cleaning!


And finally, if you find that some narratives are more of a hindrance than a help, don't be afraid to seek help. Whether it's through therapy, coaching, talks with trusted friends, or self-help resources, getting support to reprogram your thinking and habits can be transformative.
